Gulf Coast

Hey guys, how's everything been going? I just got out of the hospital, I was admitted with pancreatitis :loudly-crying-face:, but the tank survived. I do have a couple of recessed heads on a torch (for reasons unknown), but other than that it, everything's great.

My project for this weekend is making some dosing containers out of glass 800ml Voss water bottles. They're turning out pretty nice for the price - $4 per bottle, $4 for a 1/4" bulkhead.

Any idea what caused the pancreatitis? How long were you in the hospital?

I wish I knew! Alcohol and gallstones are the usual culprits, but aren't an issue for me. I've got to have some tests and procedures done after the inflammation has gone down. This is the third time I've had it, but I've got a new GI doc, so I'm hopeful. I was in the hospital for a few days, but felt pretty bad for about a week.

Do your blood checked yearly?

That sucks about the pancreatitis. Hopefully the new GI doc gets you lined out. I do like the idea of the Voss containers. That seems like a pretty economical solution.

@Snoopdog what kind of fish did you add?

That black cap basslet looks awesome

They are both pretty different and impressive. Neither swim or look like my current fish so I am pretty glad to have gotten them. I noticed ich on them the first day and maybe a spot today but they seem to be shedding off ich and eating very well.

The kamohara blenny picture on that link sucks, they are very pretty fish but do not seem to be common and there does not seem to be that much known about them.

Alabama power is struggling with this heat, my Apex is telling me the voltage is dropping coming in. This has been happening during the heat of the day on these hot weeks.

So to give an update on the fish. I know longer quarantine anything. Personally the cure is worse that the disease. I sumped both the red cap basslet and kamohara blenny. By the second day both were showing ich. We fed heavy and within three days both were completely ich free. I think we are on day three of seeing no ich. If they are still clear on Saturday they will go in the display tank. The both have a ton of personality and are each striking in different ways. I can say I have never seen these fish before anywhere and from researching they seem rather rare which makes me feel glad I bought them when I did. I was quite shocked when i read the red cap basslet gets 4 inches.

Another update. We moved the two new fish from the sump to the display and the Azure Damsel picked on both of them for around two days and he calmed down. We knew we wanted one last fish so while we were out one day we went by the Daphne Petco and they had a Neon Dottyback, a very striking fish. After some research we had a game plan. We already had a Six Line that we had sumped because of the Kamora and Redcap, so we knew that most aggressive fish had to go last. After we know the two new ones are settled in we will move the Neon Dottyback and Six Line back into the display tank. It is strange but if they are added last they are way less aggressive to new comers, it is like they get amnesia.

I do not think we will add more fish because too many may cause even more fighting, they get scrappy. We added these three because honestly even without a skimmer we are having issues keeping the nitrates up. We are dosing nitrates daily just to keep them at 6ppm. I hope this last one will prevent us from having to dose.

And like clockwork...

It is Friday and I had a bad feeling because people in my office for the last two weeks have had AC problems. I am in our bathroom and I hear something loud outside. I am like hmmm, maybe just someone running something like a pressure washer but let me check it out. The master bathroom is very close to my upstairs AC unit. Sure enough when I go outside the noise is the AC unit, not some power equipment running in a neighbors yard. I see the area around the drain line is pretty dry so it did not just happen and i went into action mode because the house will heat up quick. I figured it is likely the capacitor popped, I keep a stack of them in the garage. After replacing the capacitor it did not just cut back on, it took about 30 minutes. I am no AC person but I guess the compressor overheated and has some type of protection but it did eventually come back on.

Alabama Power is struggling, tomorrow will be bad because what is the high like 103f?
