I have a black guppy and a gold dot maroon clown. I just got the clown last night and the guppy has been in there for almost a month. I thought she was a female that was pregnant. She's definitely a female, but I feel like she would've gave birth by now. She also had a male guppy with her that died about a week ago. I always seen her harassing him. I believe that's maybe how he died. I was watching them and they seemed to be getting along well. Clown seemed to be doing fine. Than I was just watching again and the clown was hanging down at the bottom of the tank and the guppy started picking on him. I intervened and she did it several more times. I wanted to keep her but not if she's attacking this beautiful clown. What should I do? I don't have a dump it anything to put her in. Thanks for reading and adding your input.

Use an acclimation box.
There won't be no heat in there or anything? Is that fine. I mean she isn't that big of a deal to me but I don't want to make her suffer or anything as she is still a creature. Thanks

You put the Molly in there to allow new additions to establish territories. Leave it in there for 2-3 days.

It’s not to make them “suffer” and your keeping fish in a glass box really no difference

Yea that makes sense. I just meant I didn't want her to freeze to death or anything.

As far as pregnant part. If the molly mated at all at the lfs or your tank. They hold sperm for months.(in the wild there is higher predation of male Poeciliidae than females so when they evolved to be able to spawn even when male populations are low. So still may get fry, though in a tank with any fish you are going to want a breeding box for this.

There are 2 kinds of these boxes. 1 that hangs off the back and gently pumps water into the box. These are set up such that the excess water then flows out of the box back into the tank. There’s a possibility that these tanks get cold. There’s another kind that’s simply a box with slits all around it. It gets attached to the inside of your tank usually w suction cups. This kind allows water from your tank to flow directly through it and you need not worry about temperature :)

In my experience, best course of action is to pull the aggressive fish (preferably into a separate tank altogether but a box works too. I’ve used a 5 gallon bucket w a heater in a pinch. Remember: it’s temporary and short term), rearrange the Tank, wait a week or so, and reintroduce the aggressive one. But you can’t get everyone to get along all the time.

Good luck :)

I find it really hard to believe that a guppy could pick on a clown, let alone kill it. Something else must be to blame for the loss of the clown.

The clown didn't die. The male guppy did. But I didn't understand how the clown was just doing nothing back. He was just sitting there and he is also a gold dot maroon.
