Gurgling Reefer 170 and Reefer Nano

alright, I know it means it’s draining too much... I’ve played with the dial under the tank, turned back the jebao pumps (dct 4000) I’ve turned it up all the way, on the lowest setting, and inbetween. I can’t grt them silent.

Separate question — the adjuster underneath— does 1/4 turn change flow 25%? IE does a full turn go through the adjustments?! Or does it keep turning after that?

I think the general rule for a quiet overflow is a water level 1/4" inch below the emergency/backup drain (open pipe in the middle). I assume your water level is above that?

A small turn goes a long way. If the water is just above the backup drain, you may only need a 1/16 - 1/32 turn (not 1/4). Also, wait a little bit after adjusting.

It can be difficult to adjust those. What I do is turn the valve slowly until water is flowing down the overflow drain, then slowly turn the valve open in small increments until the water level is just under the opening for the overflow pipe, but not flowing over it.

my gurgling was coming from a vortex happening in the main drain. This was happening if the water level in the overflow was more than 1/2" lower than the display tank. As soon as the display level and overflow level were close, the vortex went away. I solve this by getting the water level high enough so the vortex doesn't happen.

I ended up wedging a big sponge into the top of the drain "silencer" thing, to break up the surface water so it won't vortex. That helped a lot too. Anyway, if you get loud gurgling, get your water level just below the top of the emergency drain, or maybe a little trickle into it. If you're getting vortexes, try breaking up the surface inside of the drain silencer with a big sponge. Just remember to rinse out the sponge often
