Gyre magnet extension kit questions

Hi, I am planning to add a second 250 gyre to my tank and place it in the overflow wall, which requires me to use the magnet extension given glass is some 3/4inch thick.

Is the extension magnet water proof? What would be the thickness of the assembly that would remain inside the overflow?
