I back to working on my aquarium. I have a Waterbox 180.5 and was wondering about placement and how many.

Currently I have a pair on the back wall. Should i put those vertically on the back and get another set for the sides horizontally?

What are you planning to keep in the tank ?
2 should be sufficient enough for a mixed reef

It would be a mixed reef. Just concerned on dead spots based on my scape in the back.

Those look to be Maxspect gyres so they're adjustable side to side using the flow attachments (looks like you have them on already). I have 2 in my 90g, one on each end. In your case, I think you're fine if you direct part of the flow from each at an angle towards the front corner area. Probably take some tweaking to get the direction and flow power exactly how you want it.

Looks great! The 2 gyres should be plenty. My older model gyre did get overwhelmed frequently with algae growth on the rotating blades when the tank was going through the uglies phase . So if you notice a diminished flow in the future make sure you clean off the blades with a stiff brush.

I have two ReefWave 45's on the back wall and an MP40 on the lower right side to avoid dead spots in my 100g. There is practically zero detritus on the bottom of the tank.

They are Maxspect. If I only use two. Should placement be on sides since my scape has many openings?

Great scape. My scape is a little larger so I'm not sure if sides or back is best option.

Thanks!

I'd try a couple of different areas to see what works best.

I really like to keep the bottom clean. Are you going bare bottom? Those MP40's move some water, so they would certainly blow sand everywhere in that location.

Based on what I can see of your scape it looks like most of your openings are front facing so it makes sense to have the gyres on the rear wall as you do. That should have the sheets of water they throw coming across and hitting the front glass and then travelling down and back through your caves and holes in the scape.

The only place you'll probably see some dead space will be in the back behind the scape where the flow isn't able to flow though the scape. If that's the case you could always add another Maxspect gyre and only use one side (they can be set up to only run one side if you weren't aware) or just add a regular powerhead to shoot down the back wall between the back wall and the scape.

I like the set up you have. I think it'll work out great with a little tweaking.

Edit, lol I just read @SPS2020 post and his set up is pretty much exactly what I was trying to describe.

You hit the nail on the coffin. I was wondering about the back and would like to have one flowing water in the back. I will get another gyre since the spread is much wider. Thank you for the comment on the set up. Took me months to put it together and taking it down several times.

I'm going to have sand. Love the goby
