After watching the BRS video on flow I decided to place my Gyres a little different then I had them set up. The video showed how gyres send a thin sheet of flow and since I had them at the same height on opposite sides of my 180 it stands to reason that my flow was “meeting“ in the middle of my tank and crashing into each other. I put them at an angle and see how that goes.

I have my 2 gyres placed at the top of the waterline - and they are set in alternating mode. So - they do not 'fight' each other in the middle. They are set to flow one directly for about 20 seconds. ramping up (randomly) from 0 --> 50-100%. This seems to provide excellent oxygenation - and excellent flow throughout the tank. Having said that - I don't see anything 'wrong' with the way you're going it.

One way to check the flow etc - is to lower the water level near your return pump - such that some air is entering the tank. You can then see how the bubbles are dispersed - and where the flow might be 'fighting' itself

Hope this helps.

@MnFish1 ... are you using the Gyre Controller? What size is your Tank.

I have one in Random and the other in Pulse. Like them a lot but will like to try your setup.

Thanks in advance...

I set my xf350s opposing sides but one toward the front glass and the other toward the back glass. This way when they eventually slam into each other they do a vertical and horizontal twist at the same time keeping water flowing down the glass and never just a hard slam into the other gyre wave.

Won't crush things below the meeting point but gives it and up down and side to side twist . I constantly change the settings right now they're both on fwd and reverse at different intervals..

Forgot to mention this is on a 250g

I also should mention mine are 4 inches down and pointing upward a bit.. this way instead of a thin top layer of water it's pushing more body of water by pushing up through more water. If that makes sense..

The right side is on 1min fwd rev and left is on 8 sec forward and 10 reverse.

I have the max spect F350's. I'm using the controller that came with the Gyres (there is one controller for both) - its a 105 gallon (redsea reefer 525 xxl)

BTW - for those interested - you can click the green circle on my video - and see a couple other reef tank videos - one which shows the gyre-flow in my tank

Like @MnFish1, I use 2 Gyre 350's on either end. The only difference, and it isn't much, is that I use a Reverse Time delay on the alternating mode.

Actually - if I'm understanding what you're saying - I do the same thing:)

The reverse or turbulence is underrated. If you time out a well placed opposing side into turbulence it's a beautiful thing.
