gyre positioning

I was wondering how people position their gyre in their aquarium. I used to have both of them mounted horizontally in my 72x24 tank, but was seeing a few dead spot due to my rock work. Now I changed one of the pump is mounted vertically and the other one is horizontal, but running random flow, and it seems to have greatly increased the coverage. Have anyone tried multiple setup, and why have you stuck with this one?

Mine are on opposite sides and vertical. I only have them vertical because I don't have room to mount them horizontal on the sides glass because of the corner overflows in my tank.

When I ordered them I looked at the dimension of the tank online and completely forgot to take in to account the overflow.
