Hey everyone,

I'm trying to figure out a problem I'm having with my setup right now, it has to do with water level fluctuations on my overflow box which in turn is changing the level of my return section which is making dealing with evaporation difficult.

I have an Eshopps Eclipse S overflow, varios return and two 2k IceCap Gyres. When I have my gyres off and only the return running, my overflow box and return section water levels are stable not fluctuating, and the noise level is dead silent (Herbie Style). However, when my gyres are on, they create more surface agitation causing my overflow levels to change and the return level to change, the noise level is also introduced as well.

Anyone run into this before or have any ideas?

the only thing I could think of is maybe you don't have the main drain open enough which would cause the level to rise until it hits the emergency drain then catching back up pluses that would explained the flushing sound.. hope that might help

I will give that a try and see what happens

I tweaked the gate valve a bit, the water level seems be alright in the overflow box, only slightly fluctuating with the wave pluses. Im gonna let it sit for a bit and see how the return section reacts

I also have am apex flow sensor on the return line and apex is saying its staying consistent. Varying only by 1 every now and then

What flow pattern are the Gyre's set to? How much flow is going through your sump? I use two Maxspect XF330s with my internal herbie overflow and don't have issues like you're describing.

They are on alternating Sine wave, ramping up to 85% then down to 0% in a 45 min cycle. As for flow through sump, I have only the return drawing water from the sump and its pulling 5x turnover of the display
