Gyre, Traditional, or Mixed Powerheads?

I’m planning on using the new CoralVue Wave Engine on my 90gal and love the idea of it powering and controlling all of my pumps from 1 device. So with that in mind my options are Maxspect Gyres and Reef Octopus Octo Pulses.

This is my first tank in ages so I’m at a bit of loss with this new technology.

I'm in the same boat. I'm building an IM lagoon 50 EXT and I dont want to purchase 2 mp40's to get decent water movement. I'm thinking about picking up one of the new gyre 2k's but I'm not yet sold on the circular flow pattern, I've always had better luck with more intermittent/random flow. Hopefully someone will chime in.

3 days into this thread with 4 votes and no one chiming in with their experience. I know there are some awesome reefers here who have some good advice with this.

I'm in your boat. I just ordered the wave engine myself and will be using it on my 300 gallon with 2 Octopulse 4s and two gyre 250s. We'll see how it goes! I'd think having this combination would be the absolute best. I might throw a couple Tunze 6105s I have laying around on it was well....time to get crazy with the wave engine!

300 gal that’s awesome! Do you think the Gure 250’s will be enough? What’s your tank’s width?

two 250s with two octopulse 4s will be plenty I think. Honestly, I've been running it with just the octopulse 4s for a little bit while waiting on replacement parts for the 250s and I thought that wasn't bad for flow (return pump is about 1000 gph as well). Tank is 77x30x30

The reviews on the pulse 4’s look awesome. It sounds like those will be able to push all the way across the tank but the 250’s sound underpowered. How do you have everything configured?
