would placing gyre maybe 2-3 inches under the surface skimmer on the overflow box be okay, as in would debris get filter out, rather then go round and round

I would be concerned as the gyre pulls from below and would blow most particulate away from the weir. Unless you run reverse gyre, but that would be pretty inefficient. Mine run opposed on each side so stuff tends to gather around and then into the weir. Others may have more experience with trying this but I would be concern that your thoughts are correct about it just staying suspended and not exiting.

Yeah thought so too, just in denial lol. That spot would be great since it would blend the gyre with the black of the back glass

The water still drains though right? So I would think even though it might not look like it, i'm sure the difference is negligible.

My thought on it is that I wouldn't be too keen on water running over the portion of the magnet that is supposed to be outside of the aquarium. I can't be certain but I wouldn't think it would be ao impervious to water as the wet side as that would increase production costs. BUT I could be way off base with my assessment.

You could run it vertical on one side as well. I've seen videos of that being done before. Wouldn't give you as much surface agitation but you could point your return nozzles up to compensate.

When I have surface water pushing away from the overflow, I find that I end up with a slick forming at the opposite end of the tank. I bet it would work pretty well if you can run the Gyre >4" or so below the weir.

Water should still drain, but I was concern About the debris in the tank going into the mechanical filtration

The magnets on the wet side are exposed I’m sure there water proof, the back part isn’t but looks petty sealed

I would suggest that you put it on one side or the tank not on the overflow - firstly the magnet is supposed to be on the outside, secondly - it will worsen your surface skimmer. The reason the overflow is designed the way it is is to maximize filtration - you may be making things worse.
