I've been running it for a year now on my 40B and am having issues. Not with the pump per say but with the flow it's producing. It is located on the same end as my return.

At just 20% there's so much flow at the opposite end that several of my corals are showing tissue recession. I've since moved them. But now I can't put anything on the SB in that area.
Plus the area/rock underneath the pump has become a home for all detritus buildup. Which I'm blowing off daily. But I believe it's just settling right back.

I'm thinking between the Gyre & return the flow is just to much.
Would putting the Gyre on the same end as my overflow have any negative effect on the overflows performance?

Allot of people have stated that the flow on those are too much. I can't imagine any negative side effect moving it. I have two power head on each side of my tank and my over flow is far right side. When my wp40 pulses and makes waves. All it dose is change the sound of over flow a little. Have you tried mounting in vertically ??

I have an XF150 (120g) actually mounted to my overflow box and have had no issues whatsoever. I've also been using it for nearly a year this way.

No I haven't tried it vertically. I've got 2 large LPS colonies up against the back wall. Not sure how they'd like that much flow.
I'll try it on the other end tomorrow. Facing my return should break up its flow a little you think?

I definitely think it will break it up a little. You still may not be able to increase the Gyre too much, but hopefully it disrupts it enough to solve your issue.

I have my gyre blasting water in around and out of my overflow if that makes you feel any better lol. I had the same issue as you the first 2 weeks i had my gyre,i lost a tdg what the heck acro and rr excaliber so once I tossed it into alternate gyre mode on the first setting(i think its 2 minutes) it solved my issue as now the corals that replaced them are fine

Haha couldn't wait till morning. Got outta bed and went and switched it-lol. Took me 2 dang years to bust that move. Feeling a bit on the stupid side. I'm always so fearful of changing things up.
