I have two Gyre 130s in my 40 breeder that spit out huge slews of micro bubbles every time they change direction. I have had them for about 3 months now and it seems to be getting worse (although I have solved the micro bubble issues from my sump, so maybe they are just now noticeable). They are both on alternating gyre on 100% and do not appear to be sucking in any air from the surface. Is there anything I could do to help this? Take them apart for cleaning or something? I have not taken them apart for anything. They are just stock assembled in my tank.

I was going to say, take them apart and clean them. The only way for micro bubbles to be possible, is if air is trapped in algae on the blades. One other way is when the change direction a slight amount of air is pulled into the blades. Try adjusting the direction of flow, or lower the pumps slightly in the water.

Hope you are doing well, and have a good one:)

I am noticing it only happens when they change direction. They could definitely use a good cleaning, so I think I will do that before I do too much complaining. For now I turned it one to constant mode and the other to pulse and it seemed to ameliorate most of the bubbles. I do really like these pumps, but I have been nervous to take them apart for cleaning.

There is a youtube video and taking them apart, the key is to go slow, and lay out the parts in order of disassembly. link to some videos that might help. I clean mine every 2 to three months.

I guess I am about due then, especially with some algae issues I had about a month ago. Thanks!

It has to get the bubbles from somewhere before it can release them. The unit is too high, or the tank return is spraying some bubbles in the gyre's direction and the bubbles get sucked in then released later?

Look closely at how air is getting into the blades, and fix that problem.
