I've had a 130 since July and bought the new XF230 around Thanksgiving for new setup.

Well, I finally took it out of the box today to start wiring everything and that thing is NOISY as heck.
10%, 20% whatever.... no way I can use this thing.

The 130 was great from the start, no issues whatsoever.

Any recommendations? If I hadn't waited 2 months before opening the box I would be sending it back.

Hey there..
I have both xf130 and xf150 but never noisy out of the box. Try removing the cages and turning the propellers. They should turn fairly smoothly.
If not, the problem is within that piece, if they do turn smoothly, the problem may be in the bushings in the cages.
Best of luck!

Will give it a try.

Nope, didn't work. Maybe it has to break in.

did you try to fully take apart and reassemble?
Did you swap the controller's to rule out the new advanced controller?

I did fully take apart. Haven't tried the controller.

Will the old 130 controller work with new 230?

I am not positive but I believe they are backwards compatible

OK, just switched them out. Same thing.

I'm gonna give it a week or so to break in some.

My 130 is dead silent so hoping for the same on this new one. Last thing I want to do is buy another pump right now.

Thanks for responses @psl123

When pump was apart, were you able to just rotate the ceramic shaft which is inside the driver unit? and did it rotate smoothly?
Best of luck with that pump!

Yes, it seemed to rotate freely.

If it doesn't get better in a week guess I'll open a ticket or request RMA from coralvue

can you tell if the noise is coming from the propellers rubbing the flow cages?

Everything I've read said give it a little time and let them break in should quiet down

For some reason the only problems with noise seem to be coming from the 230 and not the 250 or 280...

They used to say this would go away with break in...I would just pull it all apart, make sure it is together correctly and allow it to run overnight ....maybe in a bucket of rodi so it doesn't mess up the tank or freak out the fish.

If it continues to fail after entire rebuild, it may be that the ceramic shaft is not straight?

It may very well be my misunderstanding.

But isn't the whole idea of having these member sponsor areas to actually have the sponsor/manufacturer/seller answer your questions...?

Or am I missing something?

Haha! I was hoping so...

Although I think the response would have been... let it break in for a couple weeks. Saw the same response on their support forum. CoralVue that is.
