I'm seeking feedback from anyone who has been running one of the new 3 series gyres.

I bought mine about 1.5 months ago, and I'm overall happy with it other than the noise. I'm running the thing on my 40b, and over 40% it creates a clearly audible hum that can be heard across the room over my other equipment (including a pretty noisy single drain overflow and skimmer). Over 50% the hum is audible from the hallway and sounds like there's a beehive in my room.

Since this is my 1st controllable pump, I assumed it was normal to have sound and forced myself to get over it. After watching the new cjsaquariums video where he cranks 2 xf330s up with no audible hum with his audio equipment, I'm almost certain that mine is defective. I can make mine sound like a tornado siren in the distance through my phone's not-so-great microphone.

Could this be because mine is on a 40 breeder with thin glass? I'm hoping to get some feedback from other 3 series gyre owners before I completely lose it with Maxspect who has told me through email "these pumps are never going to be dead silent, they will only be near silent as advertised". "Near silent" is subjective it seems.

Anyways, thanks in advance. Hopefully I can get this resolved!

I have a 330 on 1/2" glass and I cant hear it over my return pump on any setting. The only thing I hear is the splashing from the crazy amount of water it pushes.

Thanks for the comment. I think my glass is closer to 1/4" although I don't think it would make much of a difference. Hopefully someone with thinner glass will chime in so I can confirm my issues.

Ever figure out the noise? I've got the same thing. Talked to coralvue support 3 times now. 1st time they sent me new impellors with no change. 2nd time suggest playing with the bushing spacing to see if things were binding. No change. 3rd time was this week and they sent me a new motor and bushing assembly and it makes the same noise. Found out today that if I hold the pump in the tank off the wall it is silent at 100%. As soon as it get close to the wall it starts making the humming noise. Also have 1/4" thick glass.

Seems almost like the thinner glass tanks are allowing the hum to be audible.

Should be easy enough to solve by putting a rubber spacer in between the magnet and glass.

Its not really a vibration in the typical sense. Like I can hold the pump about 1/2" off the glass and it still makes the noise but if I move it like 3 inches off the glass its silent.

Right I'd imagine it's the pull of the magnet on the motor itself or something similar. Was just thinking the extra space off each other could reduce it.

I tried sticking 4 layers of cardboard between the magnet and glass but no change. I then tried removing the magnet all together and just touching or hovering the pump near the glass caused it. It's super weird. And if I run the pump without the impellors installed its silent.

I just wish that mp40s had a flipping directional nozzle. I use the 330s vertically behind the rockwork. My tank has corner overflows so I was trying these since I can't use mp40s. I use mp40s for flow in the front. They are my preferred pump.

I finally got mine pretty quiet (comparable to my mp40qd's) by doing this.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but currently facing the same issue, makes noise when close to the glass, 0 noise when it's in the middle of the tank suspended , anyone got a fix for this?
