I am looking for advice as to which would be better for an 180g LPS dominant tank 2 gyre xf330 or 2 mp40 mainly comprised of frogspawn, octospawn, hammers, and goniopora.

I’d start with the Mp40’s, then add the gyres down the line. The MP40’s are so universal and great that you can’t go wrong with them.

This video is a little older but it will give you an idea of how the sape looks added corals since then.

I've ran both and if you can only budget for two then gyre 100%. I run 4 mp40's now only for the ease of cleaning them. I keep a couple of spare wetsides and just rotate them out.

The gyres weren't hard to clean but with my cable management they were a pain to take off.

I agree with @TheOne about the cleaning aspect. I hated cleaning my gyres so much, I got 3 mp40's just to match the kind of flow I was getting with a pair of gyres. It took me about 15 min to disassemble and clean a gyre vs. 5 min. on a mp40. Also, the gyres needed cleaning more often, else they would get loud and efficiency would suffer.

I prefer the gyres in flow because the wide flow and you can program the pumps on the controller it comes with, unlike the mp40s where I had to get a reeflink that works half the time. Annoying as it was to program on the ReefLink, it's only needed once and never touched it again.

Short term go with Gyre. Long term I suggest Vortech.
Gyre is cheaper and creates awesome flow but requires too frequent cleaning and it is a PITA to clean.
Vortech is more expensive upfront but down the road maintenance is a piece of cake and the flow is very good too.
