One of my gyres is dead , I’ve had it 2 years and never cleaned it, is it worth trying to clean and see if it revs up, or if it’s dead is it dead?

Clean it first, take it all the way apart and soak it in citric acid. Vinegar works but it's not good for the magnet. You probably have a build up of algae in the bushings.
I agree. You will likely have buildups of calcium carbonate that the Citric acid will help to break down. Using warm water instead of cold speeds up the process.
