I’m looking to buy a gyre but have heard on brs that they lose efficiency fast I’m just looking to increase flow I have a mp40 would another mo40 be a better option due to daily/weekly maintenance?

I definitely love the maintenance on the mp40’s. I have gyres and mp40 and overall prefer the mp40’s because they don’t lose flow and easy to clean.

I recently switched things up and bought a icecap 2k. I followed up by buying another one. MP40s didn't go bye though still love them based on some things mentioned. I couldn't however dial in my flow with just using mp40s. I'm finally getting the flow my polyps were needing.

We've been using dual IceCap 4k's on a 300gal since August & really like them. They are silent unless they need to be cleaned, which will depend on your nutrient load (i.e. how fast does algae grow in the display). We have not seen any change in their performance, & we have cleaned them only once.

I have xf350 gyre on my tank for a few years now. I have never cleaned it and it still pumps water like crazy. I do not know what they deal is with people needing to clean them all the time. Maybe it is because this one is larger and more powerful.

I hate the flow and would not likely every buy one again, but they do move a lot of water and mine, at least, has been reliable so far.

mp40 and a gyre should not even be compared to each other. The flow is totally different. All flow is not the same, IMO.

What is it you hate about the flow?

It goes in a circle in one direction all of the time with only variable flow rates - I have gotten to where I just run it for 8-10 hours a day when the lights are on. Running them backwards is a joke to me. I prefer a Tunze style pump that I can point where I want it.

That makes sense. Was it effective at lifting stuff off the bottom?
