In the span of 24 hours, my nem went from being fully expanded to a tiny shriveled ball. I have had the nem for 5 years and I have never seen it do this, so I am very worried about it. My parameters are in line since I tested them when this happened but I am going to buy new test kits to double check. My lighting is the Maxspect Mazarra P-Series run on the default settings. I have been doing this for 2 years with great results. My corals look the best they ever have. This has me perplexed.

It could be just expelling waste...

What (( if anything )) has changed recently?
Did you feed it recently? If so, what?
Add any new fish/inverts?

I don't directly feed it. No new fish or inverts. The only change was that i turned on my protein skimmer one week ago.

Sea Horse,

Have you used any different foods or chemicals in the tank? Did you not use a skimmer before hand or do use it occasionally?

I used the skimmer off and on. No new chemicals or food. I actually don't use chemicals. The foods are what I have been using. I always buy the same brands. My last water change was a week ago using same salt and my usual water. I used distilled water.

Hmmm....my kole tang has been MIA since Friday when I last saw it, but it likes to hide in the rocks. I really don't see it much. All other livestock is accounted for.

Parameters:

Ammonia: Undetectable
Nitrite: Undetectable
Nitrate: 5
Alk: 9
Ca:460
Phosphate: .25 (always had a phosphate problem)

My BTA in the same tank is doing great. My h. crispa is looking worse tonight. :( I'll post up a pic.

Looks to me like she either ate something not agreeing with him or she is just mad about something

Found my other test kit and phosphate is .05. This is with my seachem kit.

I'm not having much hope for the nem. Its foot is now detaching. :(

I would look for the kole tang.

If the fish was too big and the anemone tried to eat it it could have gotten injured trying to bring the fish into its mouth. You can try and treat it with anti biotics. It looks like its something internal.

Dip

You can try and deep it in seachems reef dip

or you can try

cipro or doxycycline. You will need to QT it and add antibiotics.

Did you find the fish?
