Ok so this is kinda a tricky one guys.

i have a 20L macro talk up and running for 1.5 years now but I got an out break of cotton candy algae :( manual removal seam to help but comes back of course I am only going it on water change day every 3 weeks...
so I am thinking a clean, scrub and dip in peroxide is in order as my 1st step. can I dip my macros as well?

Then I think I am gonna start to run a ATS so the system to see if I can get it under control prob. will loose my macros but if I have a clan tank I can do something else with I am ok with that. better that a restart right!?

would love some feed back and thoughts on this.
is there any snails that will eat cotton candy but not other macros?
what % of h202 should I start with? 3% or higher and where do you get the stronger stuff?
any one have ever been successful with this method?

cheers

yeah I am gonna give it a try for sure then. anyone know if I can do 3% or should I get the 35% .
my plan is manual remove as much as possible then take a tooth brush and clean the rocks real good then a soak or just dump the peroxide on the rocks.

I use the store bought 3%.

I use the peroxide in the scrub water and rinse really good. I donit on WC day and use the old water.

yup that is the plan. I hear the formula is 50% h202 to Sw is that correct?
that is why I was thinking about the stronger stuff.
how long should I let is soak in the solution after a good scrub? some say a few min other say 15?

Lol. I use a 10 to one ratio and I never soak.

I like micro fauna. It'll kill off small bugs and such.

I have only had bad reactions on putting it back In the tank twice after higher concentrations. So I don't do it. Maybe I'm just a woos.

But the peroxide may effect the rest of the macros you like so I'd use caution there. Folks dose it to kill algae in the display.

yes I like micro fona too, so Ok no soaking just a quck dip then?
yeah I this point I have decided the macros are a goner. I mean i'll do my best to save some but not at the risk of CC algae coming back.
my hopes are if I get as mush as possable removed then start up an ATS I will not have to restart. we shall see.

Yea. I've always just scrubbed.

Bummer about the macros.

well did not have time to scrub the rock in H202 today. after manual removing the CC algae and filter cleaning ,Wc , etc I ran out of energy. lol + I was accumulating other fish for the 90.

but it does look alot better after that. I plan on doing another WC SOON then I can give it a scrub also ordered my driver for my ATS I am gonna fire up on this tank. between all the WC, manual removal, replaced carbon and phosgurd, then scrubbing we shall see what will happen. I am going to give it 6-8 weeks of intense care if I can get it under control then its restarting time.
