I have had an H80 mounted above my refugium (12") for the last couple of years. I have had no issues growing plenty of chaeto. The issue is for the last year the black paint has been bubbling up and flaking off into my sump. I assume that the light is made to withstand a corrosive environment. Anybody else see this issue? I reached out to Kessil for advice on how to strip the remaining paint and recoat it. They advised that I not do this and asked for photos. Maybe I should just buy a new light and be happy that this one gave me good service for two years. Just hate to throw it out when it is still working.

I would see if Kessil would work with you on a possible discount before buying a new one. I also think you should be able to remove & repaint but I would use Heat resistant paint, then maybe clear waterproof paint.
