What is happening here?

32.5 gallon FluvalSmart flex.
Tank parameters are level. That said, I did have an ammonia spike due to over feeding 2new clowns. Which seemed to create an unhappy environment.
It’s been one week and levels are back in check. However algae has begun to grow, is this an issue?

In the ammonia event I may have lost a montipora, and now it’s covered in Algae? Is it dead?

Back to my main issue. These zoas have been closed since being dipped and introduced into the tank on Jan 3 2021. They are however growing new polyps, as you can see on one plug of pink zoas.

I have re dipped them but they continue to degrade.

I don’t see any pests, other than a ton of pods.

Other corals and Zoas seem fine.

Thanks in advance!

What did you dip them in? How long ago? How long between dips? Maybe move them down to the sand?

what are your nitrates?
I dipped in brightwell koral md. Approx. 2weeks ago and one week before that. I have moved them down to sand and no change.

Nitrates are 2 ppm . But definitely not zero.

A

Alk is 7.
I inherited a rock covered in zoas... they never really opened up... we're talking months. In that time, my nitrates were high and my alk was not stable. It floated between 5-8, as I was manually adjusting. As soon as I started dosing alk, they perked up. I run closer to 10, with my calcium at about 380. They are now flourishing.

Alk wont have a high impact on zoa but nitrates, phosphate and salinity will.
What test kits are you using to check parameters?
Moderate light and water flow.

Temp 77-79
salinity 1.025
ph 8.1-8.3
nitrate < .04
Phosphate < .04
Ammonia < .03
Alk 8-9
CA 440

Decrease white light intensity by 10-15% and increase Blue 10%
Add a little Iodine OR Iodide to water

Red Sea test kits.
Salinity witha hydrometer.
My whites max out at 25% and blues are 100%. Reds 5%, violet 100% aqua100%. Max is only for 8 hrs, with an hr sun up, sundown.
Are my lights too high?

I should get some iodine’s.

Be careful with iodine. It is toxic if overdosed, and overdosing is very easy.

What are your calcium and magnesium levels? Nitrate and phosphate levels? Salinity?
Temp 78
salinity 1.025
ph 8.1
nitrate .4
Phosphate < .04
Ammonia < .03
Alk 8
Not sure about mag, don’t have the means test, I need to get it.
