So about 4-5 months ago I bought some carpets from a petco in columbus, before the move to ann arbor. They were crappy, like terrible. They were white with almost no tenticals. They continued to get worse until about 3 months ago. I then transfered them to a small 20×18x12 frag tank with 8 bulb T5. They started to look much better and they gained color. Throughout all of this the one constant has been the gaping mouths. They have gained all of their tenticals back and are actually quite shaggy almost like a gig. The one thing I can't fix is the mouths. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The mouth isn't that bad. Just keep up with ur WC schedule.

Looks like he's irritated just a bit. That one pic he looks deflated.

Check ur PO3 and PO4.

honestly for the conditions they were in prior you're doing a fantastic job, keep up with good water quality and some feedings and you should be in the clear

The bottom pic looks good. The top pic is not good. I've seen that look before.

I rescued a colorless Bta from petco before that had the same issues. No color, gaping mouth, few to tentacles. I just kept up with water changes and keeping the tank nitrate free and I also didn't feed the nem. After 2 months it looks like this

So everyone is looking much better. Mouths are tight, fully inflated, and responding to feeding very well. Here's the one that was looking bad. And here's the one that was looking better, this is during a feeding of mysis. The tenticals keep getting longer. They almost sway with the current.
