I have searched but haven't found the answer to my question. Looking for the best overall light for a haddoni carpet. Here are my choices at the moment

1. T 5 420 NM and or 10 k or a combination
2. 250 watt MH 14 k
3. Led, but they are the cheaper Chinese ones though dimmable. Have seemed to give decent softy and lps growth.

I also had a chinese light. The dimmer went back on the whites but was a cheap fix. Mine grow sps just fine.

It is just a observation QT tank, but it is a 20 L. The 250 MH would be way overkill on this tank, but if I hung them high enough...maybe? Am thinking the led as I can lower it more and control the output with the dimmers.

I kinda followed ohio reefer and wanted to QT and watch this one before adding to the DT. I just got it last night, but so far it has planted its foot and filled out. Mouth is just a tiny bit open, but I expected that. I just want to give it the light it needs to have the best chance.

I had a 250w 20k single ended MH on my 20L reef. About 16" above water. Was it over kill? Maybe. Did I see great growth from corals I sure did. Was there a heat issue, No

There's over kill, and then there's supplying the right environment for your anemone to thrive. I don't see 250 watt over kill for a 20 gallon. During treatment on one of my carpets I ran a 400 watt over a 20 long. My carpets thrive under T5, LED, and halide. They're picky with water quality and placement but not as much with light as long as the light source is strong enough to let them thrive. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me.

Been keeping S. haddoni for 20+ years, with a couple different light set ups --- including 6*65 PC over a 75.

I have gotten the best results with 2*250 MH (( over a 58/65 and 75 )) and single 250 over a 33 cube. The supplemental lighting has been 2*96 PC or 4*54 T5. No supplemental lights over the cube. Used either SE Radiums, or DE Phoenix bulbs.
