Hair algae in skimmer

I just noticed I have a decent amount of hair algae growing in my HOB protein skimmer. this may sound stupid, but could this be beneficial? If not how should I clean it? Vinegar? Peroxide?

i used to use a long brush like something used for coffee cups and glasses. get it good and clean
