Hair Algae TAKEOVER

Hey everyone, recently there has been an EXPLOSION of hair algae in my reef tank. This tank is a newer set up. I know it’s a natural cycle, but it’s starting to kill my zoanthids. It’s taking over my rocks. I’ve got a great clean up crew and they still are having a hard time taking it out. Any suggestions please? Thanks!

If it is a newer setup, you are in a good position to perform several 4-5 day blackouts. The lower light coral will be fine, but the algae will not like it. Remove as much as possible, water change, skim heavy and run a little GFO, before doing anything. There is a lot of misinformation about clean up crews and what they are capable of. Even if you had a school of tangs, they might not touch the HA, until it has been knocked back a bit. Just keep at it and you will win eventually.

near windows? Natural sun = hair algae

What do you feed, how much, how often, what fish do you have?
