Hello, I have had my tank up and going for about 5 months. It is a 40 gallon uniquarium. For the past month I've been battling what I thought were diatoms. However, as of recently, it definitely seems like hair algae. My nitrate and phosphates have been under control so I'm not sure what is to blame. I have 2 koralia powerheads (they are not on a controller so maybe that could help) on each side of the tank moving the water in a circular flow. I recently cut down my current usa led lighting from 10 hours to 8. There is a bag of chemipure blue in the sump which has done nothing. Once cycled, I added approximately 1 fish per month to get to where in at now... 2 clowns, 1 banggai, 1 firefish and 1 royal gramma. I'm sure you all may need more info but can you tell me where to start to battle this stuff. Here are some pics.

Also, I am using an rodi system. Thought that'd be important to add

Tank is still young... you'll see all sorts of things come and go. Hair algae usually starts as little tufts of... well... hair. What do you have for a clean up crew? You may just want to beef up you snail or hermit count.

Thanks for the quick response. I have a few trochus and cerith snails and one turbo. I also have an emerald crab. I'm thinking of adding a few more snails... I'm kind of scared of hermits.

Also, I feed once daily mainly mysis shrimp which I strain with rodi water

That rock looks pretty normal to me. Actually clean for a newer system. A larger clean up crew would mos def take care of the small amount of algae that you are stressing.
