I have been battling Hair algae in my tank for a while now. I put new lights in while my fish were in quarantine because they had ich. The lights have been up for about 2 months and I just put the fish in a week ago. The battle with algae has been going on for about 2 months. I have been using vibrant 2 times a week and it does not seem to be helping. I just sent out an ATI water test and just got the results.
I have added some emerald crabs to my tank that already has an urchin hermits and an assortment turbo and nassarius snails. I have attached my results from the ATI test, was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on how to get rid of the hair algae?

The best method is just using your hands. Remove what you can during water changes and suck it out. Mine got really bad and lasted maybe 2 or 3 months. Then it was gone. No special methods or magic chemicals. The tank just matured passed it.

Add a bunch of large turbo snails (like 10 for every 20 gallons) Guarantee they will eliminate it. I had a tank overran with hair algae, turf algae, and bryopsis. I added 10 large turbo snails and a month later it was algae free. I removed all but a few to keep the maintenance up and obviously work on lowering nutrients too.

So regardless of how you kill algae, it will just release nutrients into the water which would... then allow algae to regrow again. So no matter how much cuc you have, unless they can completely mow down every last bit of algae, they'll probably grow again somewhere else.

So yes, best option is to actually remove nutrients from the water somehow. Simplest method is to manually remove the algae.

I like this suggestion as long as you have a future home for the snails.

I bought 20 Mexican turbos for a 75 gal fish only tank. The tank was clean of all algae within a week. I decided to keep my snails. They eat and poop alot. They eat 1-8x8 inch sheet of dry algae per day and they are now two inches in diameter. I now have a fish and snail only tank.
