Had this algea problem ever since i moved homes. I figured maybe with my sandbed getting stirred up it messed up something. It's been a year since I've moved and never changed a thing about the tank. I am using the coral view lense to take the pics since my blues are mostly on. It sticks to the rock pretty good when i try to brush it off. Is this hair algea or what?

Looks like Cyano/spirulina on top of hair algae
How would i confirm if it's cyano or spirulina? I have this brown film covering some of my zoas every 2-3 days after cleaning then off. Would that confirm cyano?

Do you have a microscope or access to a microscope? Many quality reef stores have them. There are many other ways to determine what you have. Just search the threads here on Reef2Reef for control measures

Will do. I might have one at my parents house. Lol will have to check if they didnt toss it out.

cyano.

manual removal best you can. Load up on banded trochus or black trochus snails. Only thing I've seen actually eat it.

I have like 5 trochus and they are never on my rock. Always cleaning the glass. Lol

Not much will eat cyano/spirolina to the point it will be controlled in your tank. Getting something to eat hair algae is always hit and miss. CUC (clean up crew) are always useful.

Controlling cyano and hair algae can be difficult and every tank is different, it not all about nutrients. Please refer to the following threads for more information: Knowledge is your friend
