I'm having my green chromis missing not sure if he is eating them had peppermint shrimp , fire shrimp, seems like a mystery think it could be him???

I have been told no for our tank because they eat small fish.

I'm new to all of this, but my Emerald stays away from my Tiger Pistol Shrimp. But he is paired with a Orange Spotted Goby.
The Emerald likes to investigate every new coral I add. Seems to be just picking off the tasty morsels.
The Emerald did eat one fish but it was very lethargic, appeared to be on its way out already.

Post a pic. The folks on here can tell you all about him.

I came home from work and my Emerald Molted again. Here is her pic of it helps;

That's absolutely an emerald. They're designed to feed on algae, using the spoon-shaped tips of their claws to scrape it from the rock - but if they come across something meatier that they can scavenge or easily catch (because it's sick, incapacitated, or just fast asleep) then they'll take protein as well.

Any pics on gorilla crabs

This is a gorilla crab. There are a few different types but they tend to be hairier than emerald crabs and most have black tips on their claws.

I have emerald crabs currently 2. And I periodically have smaller fish come up missing. Should I just buy larger fish? Lost a clown this week. Lost a psuedo chromis last week and in the past lost firefish and chromies. After reading this thread I guess the emeralds are to blame.

I've read that the emerald crab is usually ok in the tank as long as you keep them feed so try offering it something meaty or giving it some seaweed on a weekly basis to supplement its diet

Thanks Jeff. When I feed if one of the crabs is out I give it some shrimp. In the flow it has a hard time but I usually can get some to it. Never see both out when I feed so they probably do not get enough food. I am down to one tang and my turbo snails seem to be doing badly (from a dosing of melafix to treat a tang that died anyway), so they have less competition for food.

Maybe you could try tying a piece of seaweed to a rock and dropping it down so it sinks ? I was looking to buy a emerald crab so I was researching them a bit but this is interesting! Is the crab large say 2"-+ could he eat a whole fish in the time before you noticed it gone or do you think he might drag the fish into his hiding place were you can see it? Just curious!

Thats funny I just put in two pieces of seaweed in the tank under a coupla rocks and a piece in the clip for the fish so I will see if this helps. I have so many rocks for them to hide in that when a litttle fish dissappears, if I don't find him in the overflow, then he is just gone period! Before i put netting around the overflow I would lose fish into the filters. I have saved a wrasse and a couple of chromies that survived in the filter or box for days! These crabs are like an inch and a half and I did find one munching on a dead fish one time. I don't know if he captured it live or if it died and then he got it but I suspect now that he murdered the poor fish! I tried to net out the fish but he dragged it under a rock,lol.

I thought mine was eating my fish. In the long run it turned out to be flukes taking out the fish one by one. The Emerald was just doing its thing and taking advantage of the situation. Sadly I took her to the LFS cause at the time I called her a murderer....
