I am interested in this fish. i can't seem to find much info or find places that sell them. I am not talking about the bicolor chromis (it looks similar but the white part is less pronounced ) I frequently see them in tv. specials showing the reef but don't see much info about them.i wonder what the reason is? are they not suitable or just unpopular. tia

If you are referring to C. hanui, it is a Hawaiian endemic. It's care will be very similar to the bicolor chromis. It will stake out a territory and defend it. It is likely not very popular due to the combination of it's somewhat drab colors, and will be a bit expensive.

hi the one i'm referring to is a deep half black and bright white. I have seen them in specials involving the red sea and australian reef too.(if i'm not mistaken.)

If you can get a pic that would help, C. hanui is the only one I know of that goes by chocolate chip chromis, and what you are describing sounds like the bicolor.

i will try thanks

the bicolor chromis as i understand it has white toward the end by the tail where the chocolate chip(half and half) is closer to half white half black.

This is the bicolor chromis, C. dimidiata.

This is also a bicolor chromis, C. margaritifer. That is the problem with common names, they can be applied to more than one species.

Thank you for your help. What do you think of this fish? is it too aggressive? I think a half dozen in a tank would look beautiful.

It is a little more aggressive than green chromis. They will each have their own little territory.
