Pax Bellum ones are about $100 for .5" ID barbed quick disconnects. Does anyone know of a simple PVC or plastic ones that are reliable and less expensive?

I've been using these for a few years now. There are also UV-resistant and autoclavable versions which are probably not necessary but only a few dollars more. There are also valved versions that shutoff when disconnected so you don't have to worry about inadvertent siphons.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I really like the Eheim double tap valves that insert into vinyl tubing and allow you to break the connection with only a couple of drips (valves on both sides of the connection). They are normally used on canister filters. No need to drain anything. Depending on the size they run about $25-50 per set.

So the two parts you linked connect into each other?
