Do Halichoeres chrysus ever have white stomachs as juveniles? I ordered a couple of them from LA and I'm pretty sure I received Halichoeres leucoxanthus. The bags even stated chrysus, which is why I would like to double check with the community.

Those are definitely Leucoxanthus, the chrysus will never have a white belly.

As mentioned only the leucoxanthus has that white underbelly, like it’s name Silver Belly suggests.

They are essentially the same fish, Leuxocanthus is the Indian Ocean counterpart to Chrysus. Either one will do.
they are both sister species but I wouldn’t say they’re the same but definitely very similar. These guys are also known to pair up with eachother in captivity.

I was originally a little disappointed, as I sort of liked the solid yellow body over yellow and white. But they are both now in my DT and they are pretty cool little fish. They get along well with my redfin fairy wrasse as well.

Be careful once they mature. These guys are known for transitioning even with an established male so you may find you’ll have fighting somewhere down the line.

From everything I have read, that is the case for ALL wrasse in aquaria (re sexual transition).

There are some species this isn’t actually the case for and is in fact incredibly hard to transition.
