Recently my 250w DE Halide has been acting up. It comes on around 1pm and turns off after only 45 minutes of operation. Then after about 10 minutes it comes back on only to turn off again and again. I changed the bulb and checked all the connections and nothing seems to fix it. What could be the problem?

Yes the light runs on a controller. I checked the programming and simple on at 1pm off at 6pm. This issue started occurring about a day ago out of nowhere

Does it have a temperature shut down? Depended on programming if the tank temp gets to warm itll kill power to the light to keep the tank from getting to hot. And once the tank temp falls under the set temp power will be restored to your light. Usually its defaulted at 82°

I removed the light from the controller and ran it on a regular non programmable outlet and it did the same thing. My ballast is about 2 years old Icecap. Is this common with dying ballasts?

Where do you live? I happen to have a MH you could maybe use.

NW Houston Texas. I keep the ballast ventilated and it never gets insanely hot.

Time for a new bulb, it’s a couple years old, right?

That’s one of the failure modes for MH and LPS lamps.

I changed the bulb today for one of my spares. It continues to turn off and on

There is a seller on eBay right now with new old stock. Check it out. I could be wrong, but I think it was Tx.

What kind of light specifically do you have?

Odyssea 36” halide t5 combo with Icecap ballast.

When it functioned properly it was very good. Provides 300 par at 24” down

Did you figure out what part you need?

Just saw that it started a day or so ago, possibly the ballast is starting to go.
+1 on this. I suspect that it is your ballast needing replacement.

I will try to replace the ballast. I hope this solves the problem. I will update how it goes. If anyone has experienced this issue and solved it please let me know. I appreciate the help
