Do you have to have glass between bulbs and water are we loosing light spectrum with it.
is it just to protect bulb from splash?
Double end versus single

You’ll need the glass on double ended bulbs to protect your livestock and yourself from harmful uv rays. The single ended bulbs are encased in glass already but won’t hurt to have some extra splash protection but not needed.

it stops UV and then aslos tsops the splash that would crack the bulb from temp difference

and i do understand the safety reason

The single ended bulbs have built in UV protection. The double ended do not. Just like you don’t want to be exposed to a UV sterilizer lamp you don’t want to be exposed to a double ended halide lamp.

Besides single ended are just way better anyway.
