I have a nice refugium , 75 G display with lots of nice macro's , 37 species in fact and everybody in their own fields have a nemesis of some sort.

Well mine is the Halimeda type of macro's. I seem to have a nack at erradicating them, slowly but surely. They never prosper they stagnate, they turn black, on me, turn white on me, turn red on me, then die on me.

But they never grow , certainly not on me nor in my tank. And i hear by some , oh they're so easy they grow like crazy, i just want to choke these people..lol

So , if any of you have a good crop,what exactly do you do. I read what everybody reads, calcium, maybe i have it to high, i don't know what's the problem, but , now i have a sampler;

Mermaid's Fan, Shaving Brush, Pine Cone and various Halimeda species. Which i've decide to give it a try AGAIN!!

So i'm ready for some pointers, GO! and thank you.

My refugium;

I don't have any helpful insights for you... You have been my inspiration for macros. I started off with only cheato, now I have dragon's breath, Blue Ochtodes and some (dying) mangroves. I really dig your planted fuge!

Off topic: Do you have any experience with Blue Ochtodes?

Yes its an algae that respond and will change a lot depending on your lighting, whether its strong or soft, and the wave lenght used as well. I have 3 colors of Octhtodes, red, blue and purple and they all started as blue, but depending where i've place them either in my main tank or my pod farm or main refugium at different lightig strenght i got different shades and colors. LOL so have fun with it.

I have the green money plant type of Halimeda. I don't do anything special to it to keep it growing like a weed. It does love light, and it WILL NOT tolerate extensive pruning. I do know that pencil urchins eat the stuff, cuz mine does. Mine is in my main tank, not in a sump or refugium. Don't know if this helps or not. I haven't had any other types of Halimeda plants, so I don't know anything about those. Hope all ends well. :bigsmile:
