Last week I added a piece of live rock that had several branches of Halimeda and an LPS coral on it. I plucked off all the Halimeda and put the rock in its place. Now, not even a week later, all the places that I plucked it off are already growing new leaves. If it did not have a coral on the rock I would move it to my sump with the Chaeto. But then again I dont know if I want a calcium consuming Macroalgae in the tank. Any tips on removing it for good or am I just going to have to add weekly plucking to my maintenance schedule?

I bought 150 lbs. of live rock covered in halimeda. after I learned that my foxface wouldn't eat it I plucked it out. don't know why but none ever grew back. maybe because my calcium is only at 380.

Seems to me that if you use the diy 2 part system, the halimedia consuming calcium carbonate would not be an issue. It'll just require a little more dosing.

ur lucky! I cant get it to grow if I add ferts, some tanks select and some don't. It will not harm your calcium its too slow growing. I have no chemistry knowledge to back that up it could be wrong, they just seem so slow growing surely at least a low level growth wouldnt affect tank badly~

On the plus side I must be doing something right. I just found a bunch more sprouts. My emerald crab was munching like crazy on that rock all around the halimeda sprouts lol
