Halloween hermit crab

Do these guys have special care requirements? My tank has a quite a few blue and red leg hermits that's lived for about a year now so I would think my tank conditions are pretty good for hermits. However, this is the second Halloween that died within 1 week of purchasing. There is plenty of algae bc I also bought a few more blue and red leg ones at the same time and they have been doing fine.

They require a certain type of shell, but that's all I know about them

I have one that has gotten along fine with Red Leg and Blue Leg hermits for a few months now. I carefully acclimated mine as if it were a cleaner shrimp (people typically tend to throw hermits right into the tank because they are so hardy), so maybe give that a try.

They need Cone Shells.

Idk i got 3 and a blue knucle all doing well. I just toss em in after temp float acclimating the bag.

False alarm! The shell didn't move for 4 days and I saw a carcass so thought it was dead but that turned out to be a molt and he took a week to move!
