So what am I missing,,, I have never seen one in person and this maybe what I am missing,,, I can't see why the price is so high on these,,, I can think of a whole bunch of polys that I would rather have in my tank when it comes to the looks department,,, and at a fraction of the price. Is it just that I haven't seen a good picture of them or that they have been hyped up so much that everyone except me wants them.

Give it a couple of years they will go down in price. Something has to be expensive in this hobby. For zoas it's the hallucination, black hornets, and anything cornbread or Jason fox. It's just a name and hype.

They have been out a few years and they grow very fast and for some reason are still an arm and a leg. All it takes is one person to close them out in pricing and they will drop but nobody is doing that

they grow fast but its very hard to keep the color and pattern on these .. they have been out for a few years ( over 3 years i believe) but didnt go down in price .. the reason being they are hard to keep and take really low light and its really easy to messup their beautiful pattern.

under right conditions they actually look like this ... im not sure there are many polyps out there that look just as beautiful :)

oh and how you say it .. its a pain in the utt to get them to look like ^^^ and so we like them more :)

I don't even like ZOA's and that is one of my favorites, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder as with many things, also cost and worth as with everything in this hobby this is not worth the cost to you but is to many others if I ever start keeping them this would be one of the first I got.

as stated above its the hype, your paying for the name. Until people stop paying the over inflated prices they will continue to charge high prices.

I used to like Zoas but sorta grew out of them over time. I do not believe they are hyped or anything like that. Us "stick" guys have our own woes lol.

Hey if its beautiful, rare....why not charge a lot for it.

I still don't get why people wonna fuss over the price of a coral, everything you own there is a more expensive version of it. Dose that 80$ coffee maker make coffee better than the 30$ one? doubtful just hot water going through coffee beans, yet I've never heard someone making a fuss over that kinda funny to me

I find that zoanthids are actually harder than people classify them...some are just darn stubborn, they look awesome for 2 weeks then BAM they won't open and are just ticked off

It is always the ones that look like crap that grow under any conditions but beauties like these are harder than most sps

Maybe they are Prone to Melting.

I have seen people upset that they are offering $500 a Polyp for Strats but nobody will sell.

People responded "I have 10 Polyps and would love to sell you one for 500 but If I cut off one they will most likely all die and at that point it is not worth the $500).

Some Zoanthids grow insanely slow or are very finicky.

I got a hallucination two weeks ago. I got it in a trade with a very good friend of mine a few states away. It has been a battle with keeping the polyp open. I've dipped it and wiped the outside more than I have any other polyp I've ever had. It's open, then closed, then open. I've tried to find its sweet spot but it's still a battle. I'm lucky it responds to dipping so well. I will say it's the polyp I have that's worth the most but my 3rd to 5th fav zoa. Obviously opinion.

3rd to 5th fav zoa ??

whats 1,2 and 4 then ?

I think they are fairly easy to take care of IMO. I was growing them out and flooding the Colorado market with them. The last hallucination polyp went for $55. They just need to become more available and they will come down in price. Most people are just not willing to ship. And the people that will ship charge a premium for them because there is a demand for them. As with that other "what would you pay for a coral" thread it all comes down to supply and demand.

I think this is a perfect example of why sometimes a polyp of zoa X is worth the cost. If you paid $100 for a polyp, and they grow well, then you can sell them and offset your cost. If diablomaster sold his frags at $55 and even sold 2 frags, he got it for free essentially. even better, if he flooded the market and sold a bunch of them, then he made profit. and to top if off, he probably gets lots of pleasure looking at his beautiful colony. it's a win win!!! =)
