A few weeks ago one head of my torch died. I broke it off and life has been good. We just returned from 4 days of being out of town and the center of my 6 inch long Hammer skeleton is bare. Nothing else in the tank looks different. It's been in the same spot for 5+ months and has been beautiful up until now. I do target feed it. All parameters were well within specs last night (salinity, ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, phosphates)

Any ideas?

Did any detritus settle in on it? Its important to keep Hammer and Torch tissues free of detritus. A low amount of current usually keeps them pretty clean.

Not that I have seen. There is enough flow to keep a constantly light movement across it and it's been beautiful for months. We were gone for four days, lights came on this afternoon and... a big chunk of the center is just skeleton. Nothing around it, etc.

What can I do for or with it?

If you were out of town it may have been a alk of ph spike. If it is a wall. It may be able to recover since it may have several mouths. Does the flesh of the hammer extend down the outside of the skeleton? If not it is not happy.

Did you leave the air conditioning on?
