Hammer back from the dead. Never say DIE!

Greatings. Just a nice morning treat to rebuild the spirits. I cooked one of my tanks about 6 months ago..losing a VERY large hammer. Considering cost and my affinity for him, I left the skeleton in the tank. Last month glued a few zoas to it...what the heck right?

Well this morning I'm pleased to see the smallest of buds pushing out soft tissue. Yippee skippy. Check the pic right side of branching!

Any stories of "I knew it was dead...put it came back miraculously"?

I don't personally have any stories of my own, but I have heard a few..

the most impressive was one person who removed a colony of torches because he didn't want them, couple months later noticed a baby colony sprouting out the backside of his rock (the rock was littered with them).. he had pics to prove it too.. it was pretty cool.

I had a bubble coral do the same thing. Left it in there and one of the spots started to come back. Its about the circumference of a coke can back from the dead.

This always blows my mind as these things look so absolutely dead, then bam! New coral growth. How big was the hammer before the nuking?

It was 4 branches about 3" long...that were 1/2- 3/4" thick. I spilt of one branch to let it spread. This was it a few months before the "accident"

Same thing happened with my hammer I thought it was a goner it had a couple of tentacles left.

A couple months later it recovered fully.

This happened with a plate coral of mine. Wish I had a better picture of it "dead" because it was much worse than the first pic. My power went out for a week during sandy and a lot of stuff receded. I had read somewhere to just leave LPS in a tank even if it looks dead because there is a chance it could come back. Right before I could see super small green dots under actinics the plate was black and was falling apart.

Proof that you never know. That plate should be called Lazarus for sure....or Christmas.

I had this happen with a chili coral my fried gave me- had it in the perfect spot- high flow low light and target fed it daily. The polyps stopped coming out and shriveled down to a little red bump on the rock. Threw the rock to the back of the tank to get it out of view and one morning I saw all the polyps come out- months later! I still don't feed it and its fine. Guess its happy

That happens to a friend of mine with a colony of acropora. He left it in the tank and suddenly it starts growing again.

We got some dry live rock from a friend and my boyfriend thought that it had a sponge growing on it a month or two after it was added. The other day, I accidentally touched it and it was HARD and felt like an SPS! We are now pretty sure it is an SPS but I need to get photos up! I think this particular piece was originally an SPS and is coming back!
