Looking for some opinions please. I have a 29gal aga tank with 10 gal sump. Prime hd for lights and kps and hydor 240 for flow.

I have a hammer with 6 or 7 heads and during the day it seems happy and opens up and inflates. But in the evening, around the same time most of the heads save for 1 or 2 retract and deflate. Then a few hours later its mostly back to normal. It also appears to have some tissue recession which i dont know if its related or splitting as uve noticed new mouths on a couple heads. This happens regularly and i dont know why.

Params are ok however dkh was a tad high for the tank at 9.8 and usually its at 8.4ish. So ive been holding off on water change and letting it drop on its own. Its back to normal now. Nitrats are around 10 to 15ppm. Phos reads around 02ppm. Calc was 470 mag 1560
Sg 1.026 ph 8.2 temp.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I'd say mag is in the high side. Not sure if this would be your issue with your hammer though. Was it a fast rise in mag was it an overdose? How long have you had this coral? Have you adjusted flow? Light strength? My hammers sometimes close up about an hour before lights out then start opening about 5 mins before they go off, I don't know why.

The mag has always been high since day 1. I yhink it was a result of using the aquaforest reef biotic salt. It is high in mag.

Also that is what it is doing. When the blues go in full effect for the night it closes. And opens up again like an hr befor lights out.

How long have you had the coral and have you moved it around much? As they normally like to not be moved around all the time.

My mag is that high and I have 3 hammers a frogspawn and torch. The all seem to deflate are night and then will open back up and then retract right before lights out. During the day they are usually out and happy.

Maybe its normal. I just havent noticed it untill it had more heads. When i got the hammer it was 3 heads.

I wouldn't worry too much at the moment just keep your levels stable and don't change anything just keep an eye on it. As long as its still opening and not receding or getting brown jelly on the heads it should be fine.
