so my hanmer coral was a little ticked and i went to move it to a different spot and the polyps just came off. Im not really supprised since it stoped opening since around christmas time. My frogspawn however opened up a little more so hopefully it will be fine. My other lps are doing fine and opening up and realeasing sweeper tenticles. Im just wondering if this has happened to anyone else where a hammer coral dies. It feels bad but i guess it happens.

in case your wondering my paramters are 1.025 calc 420 alk 10.8 nitrate 1pmm phos ??? Mag 1350 bought a hanna phos so its coming in

also does anyones hand burn a little after putting in the tank. I think im alergic to something. happened yesterday but went away in 10 minutes. So i guess im gonna keep my hands out of the tank or maybe some aptasia x got me

I've never lost a hammer, but I've had a couple of unexplained acan losses. How long did you have the hammer before it started declining? As far as the burning sensation goes, Could be dry skin maybe?

Hammer don't look so good. Is that a wall hammer usually those are more difficult. I never had my had burn unless it was sting but I do have my had itchy it could be allergies. But usually leaves you with a sticky feeling after you been soak in it for awhile.

I had the hammer maybe 2 months. I move my frogspawn at an angle and now its opening bigger than ever.
How dangerous are palythoa my lfs has some really prett yellow ones. But i read that the indigenous people used the poison to tip their blow gun darts and that a very little amount i needed to kill

I think it was branching since you dont glue a wall hammer to a plug. Like my other lps are doing great so i guess an alk swing might have caused the polyp bailout

If your frogspawn is happier at an angle it's making me wonder if your flow is too high and it caused the tissue to die off

You definitely have to be careful when handling them. Lots of folks only use gloves, and that's a real good idea. As long as you are careful they can be kept safely.

One note of caution though. They tend to be very prolific and can spread faster than you want them to.

I was thinking it was an alk swing that irrated it since my alk spiked to 11.5 since i used red sea coral pro. Ive let it drop to 10.5 aiming for 9.5-10 for a future clam. The flow is not too high for it.

Sorry about your coral. As for the palytoxin, Just respect the palys and you should be fine. I think as long as you are not stung in a cut or other wound you should be fine. But maybe nitrile gloves would be good if you are nervous. I mostly reach into my aquarium with a plastic grabber tool, but not always. I have AOG's and Paly grandis - I'm sure the grandis are a higher palytoxin species, but not sure about the AOG's. I just make sure not to touch them if possible. To eliminate playtoxin exposure, you'd have to get rid of any zoas and palys.
