I've had this huge hammer for atleast 3 months now and all of the water parameters are good. The last 3 days two of the heads haven't opened up

Did you happen to change the flow of water in that area? I know that sometimes when I move my power head they close up for a while til they get used to the new flow

I have spinner nozzles on my return. Nothing has changed in months. I'm not sure what's going on

It could be that some debris during my after change or maybe a Goby got super hard working and put a lot of sand in the water column. There could be a lot of reasons why corals close up, but look at their side. You will see a film translucent film covering the tip of the branch. If that's intact and doesn't have it's mouth gaping open, it's probably just something thats passing. If you see it gape at the mouth I suggest you take out and qt it

Thanks! I'll give it a few days and see what happens

Nice piece for sure. I used chemi pure elite which is a GFO bag. Melted my hammer coral. Closed up for about 3hrs and then it looked like it got a fire cracker stuck in the mouth and blown up without any burn marks.

really?! That's what I've been currently using the last couple months. What do you recommend I do next

Take it out. I threw it away the next day. Die off is not cool. I was talking to someone else who has had bad experience with GFO as well. He was saying how his candy cane shriveled up with just a table spoon of that stuff and those bags are a pound of it. Look at my posted threads. You can see what it did. Almost killed my beautiful gold torch that was $95. It killed my hammer..
What they looked like that day.

First day I bought it

After the first whole day using chemi pure elite

Barely saved it

Wow that is crazy as hell. I've been using this stuff for two months now and no serious problem until now. What should I use instead ?

I have never had a problem with Purigen. The thing is I have a smaller tank. I am guessing the chemi pure elite share size probably is not built for it. With Purigen just get your own size bag that holds very very very fine particles so you can have the bag fluffy like a pillow so it tumbles very lightly.
