Hello fellow reefers,

Over the last few days I’ve noticed my hermits nipping at the base of my hammer coral. Got up this morning and it’s looking like this, does this look ok? Is there anything I need to do to the coral?
Sorry for the newbie question but I’m only 4 months into the hobby and any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Dom

it looks okay to me, what does it normally look like?

It’s looks ok like it always does, it’s the bit highlighted I’m worried about (probably because I’m a newbie lol). The hermits are always nipping this area and are pulling off little pieces.

They won't be eating the coral. Is that section usually flesh like the rest of it?

No and it’s growing in the month I’ve had it, guess I’m worrying for nothing. Been a newbie just wanted to check it’s ok.

Okay absolutely nothing to worry about then. Your CUC will just be picking off algae or nutrients from skeletal base as previously stated.
As far as I can tell from the picture, it looks healthy based on how the polyps are extending.
