I picked this small hammer up. It was super dull looking, small, and cheap. I just love the sway of a hammer coral and I have a high end one coming soon and wanted to make sure my tank and placement would be good. So far it’s been thriving but I kind of want to know the name because it’s growing on me lol. Under blue lights it doesn’t glow at all except for right under the ‘hammer part’ where it looks golden. In white and blue light it looks very pink. I’m attaching a few pics. They all look slightly different because I was toying with filter setting on an app but if anyone has any idea that’d be cool. The last picture is under just white light and no filter.

Looks okay, I suggest raising it a little more just so the current can lift the tentacles up and sway them. I have all of mine higher than the rock around it so the current is random at times!

It’s at the very front of the tank, nothing is obstructing it from the power head

In my experience euphyllia like low flow. I’ve lost*countless hammers especially and torches to medium to high flow. They don’t like constant flow in one direction from my experience. Is the hammer solid purple? That’s what it appears to me :)

Im still wary on my flow, I think it’s good because the polyps aren’t retracted but at the same time sometimes it looks a little strong. Maybe I need to upload a vid one of these days. The last pic that I sent in the first post is the most ‘life-like’ photo. It’s basically completely pink, when I squirted a turkey blaster on it (idk why I did) it looked like the base of the polyps were green though, just the very bottom. At night it hardly glows except right under the tip where it looks very faintly gold.

What color is the stem/stalk part? It looks very similar to a common one I got years ago for cheap at the LFS. But I think it still looks nice. My 2 heads have grown well over a hundred now.

Does it look similar to this? PXL_20210228_015120135.MP~2.jpg

I’d say some flow but as minimal as possible to get its tentacles moving so it’s not looking like a deflated balloon lol! On the other hand I’m not sure, most people, sadly, don’t bother to even name most hammers. I’d say they name them more based on colors and not like random catchy names and stuff like some torches and sps zoas etc I think partly there isn’t as much demand and because of wall hammers it’s hard to name a one of a kind piece.

I have a pink hammer that is exactly like you say. It’s extremely hard to get an accurate pic of it. I love it and it’s a nice piece that I’m currently trying to revive due to a battle with Dino’s but it’s doing well.

Regarding flow I believe hammers can take a lot of flow if you ease them into it and it’s not completely laminar flow. Mine receives quite a bit of flow and it’s never retracted it’s tentacles because of it. It will one in awhile get so much flow it blows open and you can see the mouth. That only happens like once an he or so when the pumps match to the perfect setting.

Not at all, it’s mostly pink, you can’t see any green.

I’m hopefully gonna upgrade the power head that hits it so I can have a sine flow. Looks like I need to create a name for it!

Yes! It’s a very beautiful piece especially during the day when whites and blues are on. Blue only it’s kind of dull looking unless you look really close. Since we basically have the same thing what do you wanna name it :p

Sine flow I definitely do for my euphyllia

@Nick Steele Gotta bring up this old thread again lol. I know how you mentioned you had a pink hammer as well. I finally got some better filters where I can capture what my eyes see in solely blue light. Does yours look like this in blue light, with that brown/gold coloring up the stalk of the polyp? And there’s even a little green mixed in. Sorry for the bad pics. Better filters but same crappy phone camera

No it does not. Mine is straight pink from base up to the tips. Although tips are slightly neon pink where stalks are dull pink. Hard to get an accurate pic of the tips. But here’s a few of my hammer anyways most in blue and one with some white.

yeah I don’t know what’s up with mine lol. Some pretty hammers you got there though

Thanks!

Yours also somewhat looks like a purple/green hammer maybe it was stressed when you got it and now it’s getting it’s true colors back.
That would be cool. Never thought about that. Imagine a few more months and it’s a completely different hammer
