Hello everyone,

I’m new to this hobby, I recently purchased a hammer coral. The coral started to give out some slime. The flow is good and it’s in good lighting. What I’m I missing ? Thanks drive happy reefing

almost looks like the mucus that vermitid snails produce. have you checked to see if you have any of that under the polyps?
not saying that it is that, but its the first thing that came to my mind when i saw it

Hey I did check no snails. I’m not sure if there just stressed or not. Or anything else that could bother them

could just be pooping. could be stress tho too. ive had that same look on my hammer a couple times. the first time was when i first got it home. around that same time, it was V snails.
i wouldnt worry too much about it at the moment, as long as you arent plastering them with intense light, and causing trauma to them, they should be alright. just keep an eye on them. unless of course, someone with another, more expert opinion comes along. im no expert by any means

I actually just put my first hammer (and first coral) in my tank today and it is also slimming. I'm assuming just because it is stressed after the dip. My real question is whether the slime is toxic to my fish and if I should do a quick water change tonight?
