I’m new to reef keeping and I recently purchased a hammer coral around a month ago. I’ve recently seen what looks to be the tentacles of the hammer coral going in opposite directions, is this the start of a new head or is it just the spreading of the tentacles?

They can split in to more than 1 head.

Looks like it’s starting to split into a new head. You can see how fat the skeleton is under the heads. Can you see a new mouth yet?

When I bought the hammer coral it had two heads. After doing some research I think that it is just one head becoming bigger.

Definitely just getting bigger. Mine tend to bubble for some reason when splitting. You can usually see at night the split in the head when it is splitting.
