hi all just noticed this happening to my hammer coral it doesn't look good but I'm still pretty new to the hobby just want some confirmation on what it is, and what I can do to stop it. sort of looks like my branching hammer coral's stalk is being eaten by some red blotch? it didn't have this big of red or even a slight dent into the base of the coral when I got it a month ago. looks like it's deteriorating/being eating slowly but surely. still open and beautiful though. thanks in advanced

Looks like cyanobacteria/red slime. I have never dealt seen this with my hammer corals but I had something similar happen to a couple of my Zoas.

My LFS recommended Ultra Life Red Slime Stain Remover that cleared up all the affected areas and protected the rest of my tank. There are other products that work I'm sure but that seemed to work for me.

Sorry for the late reply, so I went to my LFS and asked one of my favorite workers there about it, showed him a picture. He said its all good and just some coralline algae, he showed me some in their tank, I didnt know it could come blood red like that, really cool. Also looked up some pictures of red coralline and seems to be it. Appreciate the help though man
