Hammer Coral Sweepers -- do they detach?

So, I have several fairly recent hammer additions.

I have read about and observed sweepers / feeders. This evening, but under daylight in the tank, I observed a long, thin and dark sweeper extended out of one of the hammer heads. It extended in the current over the course of several minutes until it was ~3 inches in length. Shortly thereafter it detached and was swept up in the current. The clowns took a few nips and pieces were torn off and then it settled out of site.

Is this typical? The research I did shows elongated sweepers of the same coloration and texture of the main coral. This was nothing like that.

What is your experience?

Sounds like poop to me, was it coming from it’s mouth?

Ha! @Barrett It seems you are correct! Google-fu when searching 'pooping corals' give results that are more in line with what I saw!

No problem mine do it from time to time as well and I was freaking out the first time I saw it.
