Hammer Coral?

i bought a hammer coral about a month ago and it was on a disc with a “stand” I guess you would say. It looked like one piece. Now that it has grown it is starting to grow out two directions. A definite separation of two heads. Does this mean it will be two separate corals or is this just a branch off per say? Just learning for my own knowledge.

Correct, hammer corals split and branch off into new "heads" so it's technically two separate corals from the same skeletal base

Thanks guys. Just for my knowledge because I’m learning. If you where to frag a hammer coral would you split it where the two head branches are splitting creating two different hammer corals? I’m not going to do this but like I said I’m trying to learn.

If it's indeed a Branching Hammer yes you can divide it at the base. I'd let them grow a good bit before attempting to divide just to be safe.

Well, that was terrifying. I want a wall that big, but I’ve avoided them altogether!

Good water quality and patience. When Euphyllia are really happy in a tank they really grow and grow. Watch your water parameters and make sure to keep Calc up in the 400 - 500 range because they need it to keep building their stony skeleton.
